Accomplishments

Here is a list of our garden’s many accomplishments from 2012 to the present!

We joined the Sarasota County Community Garden Program giving us the following Benefits: SCCGP collects annual fees; provides maintenance, workshops, materials, garden site safely inspections, and periodic ant control; acts as purchasing agent; enforces rules; records volunteer hours; and insures garden managers.

We installed our Memorial Brick path.

We installed an Appreciation Wall on the front of our shed.

We installed our Culverhouse Community Garden sign.

We won a Keep Sarasota Beautiful “Land Preservation Award.”

We installed rabbit-roof fencing around the entire perimeter of the garden.

We installed a floating bobber in the cistern to indicate water level at a glance.

We collaborated with Dr. Kluson on an Extension Services mushroom culture project and a groundcover project.

We hosted a fruit tree pruning workshop offered by Dr. Kluson.

We installed water barrels with hand pumps in the center of the garden.

We created a Garden Member’s Handbook.

We built a new three-bin composting structure.

We put these Operational Functions in place:
a. mulch deliveries
b. manure deliveries
c. battery and filter scheduled maintenance
d. woody trash pick-up by Parks and Recreation Dept.
e. ant and pest control by IPM trained volunteer
f. tool repair
g. reporting of volunteers hours SCCGP and Friends of Sarasota Parks
h. plot maintenance monitoring system
i. plot measurements monitoring system
j. a system of demonstration plots in each quadrant
